MM 701 S & 890 S/SC

KUHN self-propelled mounted Merge Maxx® merger heads are the right size to enhance the productivity and efficiency of many chopping and baling operations. Designed for commercial operations with flat terrain common in the west, these mergers improve comfort by bringing the work in front of the operator. They are unique in the industry and unmatched in simplicity of operation, durability and merging capabilities. The floating windguard ensures the operator lays down smooth and even windrows while the crop netting improves leaf retention into the windrow. The heads are compatible with select self-propelled MacDon windrower models.

Improve Your Forage Efficiency

MacDon Integration

The self-propelled mounted merger head design brings the work in front of the operator, which increases productivity of an operation and enhances maneuverability. The merger head positioned in front of the power unit eliminates driving on crop, preserving forage value. The increased visibility of the merger head allows the operator to quickly spot and remedy potential issues, thus limiting downtime.

The KUHN Merge Maxx self-propelled mounted mergers are compatible with multiple MacDon power units. The compatibilities are MacDon M Series (M155, M205), M1 Series (M1170, M1240), and M2 Series (M2170, M2260).

Flexible Windrow Placements

KUHN MM 701 S and MM 890 S mounted mergers can merge left, right, or 50/50 split. The MM 890 SC can merge to the center, left, or right. With either configuration, operators can create a windrow to best suit their subsequent harvesting practices.

Complete Control

MacDon M Series machines are controlled using an additional monitor with KUHN’s IntelliMerge™ ISOBUS control system. For enhanced simplicity, MacDon M1 and M2 Series machines are controlled by the existing MacDon terminal. Both configurations allow the operator to run the machine, make adjustments, receive performance feedback and carry out diagnostics. Operators can tailor their machine to field and crop conditions to maximize their efficiency and forage quality from the tractor seat. The systems also include an acre counter and sensor troubleshooting information.

OptiSense™ Belt Stall Indicator

The optional OptiSense™ belt stall indicator alerts the operator when the belts begin to slow down when approaching the maximum capacity of the machine. This gives the operator a chance to react before the machine plugs. If the belts stop, the system will shut down the machine to avoid damage to the belts and further plugging. The conveyor direction arrow will blink red and beep if a belt slows and switch to a constant tone and solid red arrow if the belt stalls. This is done by monitoring the idler roller speed on each conveyor. This feature helps the operator optimize performance, keeping the machine moving across the field for improved efficiency. Available with MacDon M series machines only.

Narrow and Simple Transport

The simple folding design allows quick transition from field to road. Transport is a narrow 10’3” (3.1 m) wide and transport height is 12’ (3.7 m). Balanced tongue weight during transport and in the field helps you maintain control at all times. Field to transport position is accomplished quickly as only one hydraulic valve per head is used for folding.

Mergers Built to Perform

High-Capacity Pickups with Integrated Frames

Commercially designed pickups treat crop gently yet are built and tested for extreme use. The central cam design with large, heavy-duty sealed cam followers provides extra-long life even in the toughest conditions. KUHN high-capacity pickups are designed and built with integrated frames to improve the strength and durability of the pickups and keep the machine looking clean as there is no place for crop to catch and build up.

Floating Windguard and Standard Crop Netting

The floating windguard eliminates the need to make adjustments when merging different crops or cuttings. The simple geometry of the floating linkage means the windguard is automatically optimized for differing volumes of crop. The long, curved fingers provide excellent crop guidance onto the center of the belt for fluffy and even windrow creation.

Standard crop netting greatly limits leaf loss during transition to the belt and ultimately improves leaf incorporation in the windrow. You can adjust the netting from being fully extended to halfway or fully retracted to match your needs.

Heavy-Duty Belt Conveyors

Commercial-grade belt conveyors allow the crop to be effectively transitioned into the windrow, regardless of discharge side. The conveyor belt is self-cleaning and requires no tracking adjustments. Each conveyor has an easy-to-access splice for fast removal or replacement, if necessary due to maintenance and normal wear.

A quick-release belt tensioning system simplifies storage and routine adjustment. Easy adjustment from one side maintains uniform pressure over the width of the belt. It is recommended to take the tension off of the belts between cuttings and during the off season.

Anti-Wrapping Discs

To minimize wrapping in long crops, such as oats or long grasses, HDPE anti-wrapping discs are installed at the ends of the pickups and rotate with the tine bars. This small improvement greatly reduces the dead space where long crop can wrap, as seen with competitive pickup style mergers.

Floating Skid Shoes

Dual, wide skid shoes allow each head to rapidly adapt to rolling field conditions while maintaining very low ground pressure. Floating skid shoes are a KUHN exclusive. The pivoting action allows the pickups to float over pivot tracks and rough terrain. Additionally, the design of the shoe allows for self-cleaning when lifted into headland position to eliminate crop buildup. The skid shoes are reversible on their mounts for even wear and longer life.

Easy to Maintain

MM890S_Hydraulics.jpg

Hydraulic Controls

With integrated hydraulics, operators can easily hook the unit to their MacDon machine with minimal additional components. The hydraulic drive pumps oil through the main hydraulic blocks on the back of the frame to adjust pickup speed and belt direction. Depending on the model, functions are electronically controlled via the MacDon interface or the KUHN IntelliMerge™ ISOBUS terminal.

Belt Tension Adjustment

The quick-release belt tensioning system simplifies storage and routine adjustment. Easy adjustment from one side maintains uniform pressure over the width of the belt. It is recommended to release belt tension between cuttings and/or during the off-season.

Bearing Wear Sleeves

Exclusive in the industry, standard bearing wear sleeves maximize tine bar life by providing an easily replaceable split mounting surface. If you're merging in abrasive soils, you'll especially appreciate this feature as the bearing and wear sleeve can easily be replaced, with the tine bar installed, in under one minute.

Quick and Easy Routine Maintenance

The two-piece poly tine bar bearing greatly simplifies periodic maintenance. KUHN MM hay mergers now have a new tine bolt with fewer pieces. The specially designed bolt holds itself so only one wrench is needed to change pickup tines. The proven split bearing with wear guards and anti-wrap disc also decrease time needed for regular maintenance and improve pickup reliability.
